I'm kind of a jaded diner...30 plus years in the hotel business, many of them as a hotel shopper on the international circuit, have left me underwhelmed, especially at hotel restaurants.....that being said, this was, hands down, an extremely pleasant surprise. I live in a foodies Mecca, Carmel, Ca., and I can honestly say I've had much lesser meals at MUCH more famous venues. This was a really great, well priced, perfectly prepared meal. Service wasn't impeccable...by we're not in New York, or Paris...or even San Francisco. But there were no glaring failures...just a few small missteps which were totally forgiven due to the genuine attitude of the staff...and the noticeable presence of the chef in the dining room. He came to our table a few times during the course of the meal and gave us some great tips. This is a guy who is CLEARLY passionate about food. And it shows in his product. Next year, when we return, we will schedule more than one meal here. I don't do chain restaurants ( ok, I'll cop to a rare breakfast, on the road, at Denny's...but really...who can argue with a Grand Slam???) and our hosts had us booked at one for this last meal in Tahoe and changed their minds....lucky for all of us! This meal was a million times better than one we might have experienced at the over priced and over rated Chart House...for less money. The price/value is here, folks....check it out. You won't be sorry. No, I don't work here. It was a great meal.

It's expensive, but it's also one of those fancy places that you don't really mind paying extra to enjoy. Plus, it's located on the upper floor of a clubhouse for a huge timeshare, so it's not exactly like their primary clientele can't afford it. (Side note- my parents own the timeshare, not me, although I wish I could afford that, 'cause the place is nice) I've eaten here probably 8 or 9 times, and every time, the service has been very good, and the food has been high-quality, although high-price. It was the kind of place where they'd have a grand piano being played live, indoor fireplaces, and of course, a great view of Lake Tahoe. They had some good TVs and a bar, too, so you could usually watch the game if it was on. The best deals were Champagne Brunch, or Sunday Breakfast, which were both among the best meals I've ever had. Other than that, it was kind of a pricey place to go without good reason. Great atmosphere, and excellent food make this fancy restaurant a classy choice, but it misses the perfect score because of the slightly disproportionate price-to-portion ratio, and because really fancy restaurants just aren't my style.

Thoroughly enjoyed the staff and the food. We had a flat steak and filet mignon. Price point was $$$ and worth it. Brought our own wine and paid a $15 corkage fee. Pleasant and casual environment.

Happy hour, 4pm-8pm. 2 beers for $8. The bar is upstairs. It has a loft/cabin feel, comfy chairs that look like sweaters. A good place to relax and watch whatever game is on the television.

As Michael said, it is very expensive, $6 for a cup of Clam Chowder, tasted like it was straight from a can. What to expect when you are 20 minutes from the next restaurant on top of a mountain. Service was great, no complaints there. Would've been nice to have a view of the sunset but the shades are always broken, in the down position. This place has very irregular hours, we stayed at the Ridge for week and it was only open 1 day.

This restaurant should be open more! Very disappointed that they were closed Sunday - Wednesday!?! We didn't get to try!

Loved this place! Well worth the money, and decently priced at that. We tried the gumbo, onion rings, and Caesar salad. All quite delicious classics served remarkably fast. Very friendly and attentive service and they validate parking. Highly recommended!

My wife and I acquired a week in The Ridge Resorts about a year ago. We thought we would have our first visit as new owners happen on our 20th wedding anniversary. Among the many amenities offered at this multiple-building resort is the main Clubhouse. The second floor is a big, open, warm, ski-lodge inspired space that is the Hungry Bear Restaurant and Bear Trap Bar. It's kind of retro in feel, but updated in appearance. Very comfortable and inviting. To the point. We were informed that the restaurant is only open on Wednesday and Thursday this week, (I'm sitting, stuffed, in our condo as we speak) so if we planned on dining at the resort during our visit, it is recommended to make reservations. We had seating at 7:30 on Wednesday, 9/17)14. We had heard nothing but good about the place and we were not disappointed! I had the steak and lobster and my wife had the trout dish with Langostino hash. It was one of the few broiled lobsters that I have had in years that was properly cooked. The steak was a perfect medium-rare and was of high quality, served with a delicious reduction. The trout was moist and delicious. We had met our server, Lyla, earlier in the week, as she is the bartender several days a week. She and her supporting staff made sure our needs were met or exceeded. Great experience. Beautifully prepared food and impeccable service. This is a tablecloth, white-apron restaurant. Several other reviewers noted the high prices. For this level of food preparation, service and atmosphere, it's very appropriately priced. If you like calamari, get the appetizer. Lightly breaded rings, cooked just through, lightly crispy and tender. Delicious. We can't give a higher recommendation. They made our 20th anniversary dinner one to remember! Thanks guys!

Amazing food plus amazing staff! Hosted 85 people for a rehearsal dinner... a HUGE success! The perfect prime rib, moist chicken and shrimp, plus the most amazing mushroom ravioli ever! Chef Stephen is passionate about his food and so is his staff. The bar and bartender are both welcoming and interesting for a perfect evening or event. Have been dining there for many, many years but this huge event was the best! So grateful for their guidance and expertise! I highly recommend them for private parties in the Lake Tahoe area. Call ahead if you are going for dinner as they are not open every night. A long drive up the hill but totally worth it when you take that fist bite. Don't miss their creme brulee! It is to die for!

My wife and I are owners at the Ridge Tahoe and have come to really enjoy having a high-quality dining option right here near our unit. The menu is not quite as elaborate as you'd get at a top-end steakhouse, but there is always at least one steak, one chicken, one fish, and one vegetarian option, and it's always crafted to respond to what foods are in season. It's always of high quality and the service is very friendly and responsive. I do not know if the restaurant is open to people who aren't guests of the resort. I do know that almost every Friday and Saturday we can't eat there, because the space is booked for private parties (usually weddings) so regular dining is only going on typically two days a week. This should tell you something -- the space is nice and the food is good.
